The alluring district of Kokrajhar can be rightly termed as the gateway to the northeastern region of India. Lying roughly between 26.19" N to 26.54" N latitudes and 89.46' E to 90.38' E longitudes Kokrajhar is bounded by Bongaigaon district on the east, by the state of West Bengal on the west, the neighboring country of Bhutan on the north, and, by Dhubri district on the south.
Kokrajhar is homeland to the colorful Bodo community as also for a considerable Rajbongshi and Santhal population. It has been the epicenter of Bodoland Movement and as such now the headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). As per demographical pattern of 2001 census Kokrajhar has a population of 1,027,015,247, the sex ratio being 933 females per 1000 males.
Clinging the northern bank of Brahmaputra, Kokrajhar is nature's treasure trove. The Champamati, the Gaurang, the Tipkai and the Sonkosh meander through the lush green landscape to make the district even more fertile and suitable especially for paddy cultivation. 55% of the total geographical area of the district (1,719 sq. km.) is under reserved forest cover which includes the Guma Range of Dhubri Forest Division and the Aie Valley Forest Division of Bongaigaon. Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary near Kokrajhar is one of rarest place where you can find the endangered Golden Langur.
