Kappad is steeped in History and natural beauty alike. On 27th May 1498, the famed Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama dropped anchor on the pristine sea shores at this very beach. A stone edifice has been constructed here to commemorate this eventful date. Locally known as Kappakadavu, this beach is a stretch of silky sands spangled with a sprinkling of rocks and boulders. Kappad Beach Tour is a walk into the cozy lap of nature.
The nearest airport to Kappad Beach is the Karipur International Airport, about 23km from Kozhikode town and the nearest rail junction isKozhikode about 16 km from Kappad. However most tourists prefer the water route down the picturesque backwaters of Kozhikode on Korappuzha river which leads to the beach.
The main attraction of the Kappad beach is a huge sprawling rock outcrop that seems to cut through the sea in an attempt to part it. An ancient 800 year old temple located on the nearby cliffs is visited by locals and tourists alike.
Your tour to the Kappad Beach will remain incomplete without a houseboat cruise down the lucid tranquil backwaters; enjoying the solitary haven Kappad beach is; chat with the local fishermen about their trade, daily lies, lifestyle and culture; and above all wetting your feet in the warm luxuriant waters of the Arabian Sea. The Ayurveda Health Spa at Kappad offers oil massages, ayurvedic cures and many health servises to the tourists.
Often called Gateway to the Malabar Coast, Kappad is preferred by those who visit it due to the solitude and calm relaxation it proffers; however it is a half forgotten quaint getaway far from the show and bustle of other beaches.
