Kappad is steeped in
History and natural beauty alike. On 27th May 1498, the famed Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama dropped anchor on the pristine sea shores at this very beach. A stone edifice has been constructed here to commemorate this eventful date. Locally known as Kappakadavu, this beach is a stretch of silky sands spangled with a sprinkling of rocks and boulders. The main attraction of the beach is a huge sprawling rock outcrop that seems to cut through the sea in an attempt to part it. An ancient 800 year old temple located on the nearby cliffs is visited by locals and tourists alike.
