You can jazz up a leisurely stroll on these sandy stretches with some shopping and soothe those frayed nerves with an exhilarating oil massage.

Kovalam is strategically connected by Road, railways and aerial routes. It is situated at a distance of thirteen kilometers from Thiruvanathapuram.

The Kovalam junction is the pathway to the glorious beaches. This Road branches out in two directions. You can turn on the left and amble down to the Hawa and Ashok Beaches and opt for the Road that veers off in a straight direction to reach the Lighthouse Beach.

The Lighthouse beach is located on the extreme south of Kovalam. This beautiful beach derives its nomenclature from the towering Vizhinjam Lighthouse, situated on a stony headland, adds to the exotic aura of the locale. The tourists cannot, however, savor a peek of its interiors. The veritable treasure trove of the literature of Kerala comes alive on a visit to the Kovalam beaches. A memorial dedicated to Ayyanappilla Asan and Ayyippilla Asan, situated near the Lighthouse Beach is an important tourist attraction.

The Hawa or the Eve’s Beach is another tourist frequent. The Lighthouse Beach and the Hawa Beach is divided by the Edakallu foreland. You can ascend this headland to catch a glimpse of the setting sun in all its splendor.

The Ashok Beach gets its name from the plush Hotel Ashok, another Charles Correa marvel. The Halcyon Castle and the Government Guest House divides the Hawa Beach and the Ashok Beach. The deeply entrenched religion finds representation on the Ashok Beach. You can pay homage to Lord Ganapathi at the Ganapathi Temple and drop in at the Kovalam Jama Masjid.

Those who want to plan a trip to a seldom visited beach, can take a walk down the Samudra Beach located near Hotel Samudra. Couple your rendezvous with the sea with a visit to the Kovalam Sri Dharmasastha Temple.
