About Braj Yatra

There is an important incident in the life of Lord Krishna that led to the observance of Braj Yatra. The innumerous pranks the Lord Krishna used to play during his childhood, often used to confuse Brahmaji. Lord Krishna often used to take foods already half eaten by his friends.

This is something that gods and goddesses were not supposed to practice. Hence, in order to test the fact that Lord Krishna was actually the incarnation of God, Brahmaji made all the cows and cowherd friends of Krishna disappear. This was followed by a miracle.

Lord Krishna himself took the forms of his cowherd friends and cows. Krishna continued to be in such forms for a year. Brahmaji realized his mistake and asked for forgiveness from Lord Krishna. However, Lord Krishna said that Brahmaji could only get rid of his sins by performing Braj Yatra. Brahmaji performed Braj Yatra and was released of his sins. This is how the concept of Braj Yatra set in and today people perform it with great amount of devotion.
