Sasan and Mundra Power Project


Sasan and Mundra Power Project are expected to solve the issue of power crisis to a great extent and generate as much as 70000 MW of power. While the Sasan Project is an initiative of the Reliance Group, the Mundra Group is a project of the Tata group.

Sasan and Mundra Power Project forms a part of the scheme of the Ultra Mega Power Project, nine of them in total to be set up by the government. While the Sasan Project is an initiative of the Reliance group, the Mundra project belongs to the Tata Group. The Sasan project being an undertaking of the Anil Ambani group is been taken care of by Reliance Energy which is a subsidiary company of Reliance Power. Funding for the project, amounting to Rs 14,000 crore, is been sourced from various financial institutions.

Sasan Project-A Reliance Initiative

Reliance group acquired the project following its equaling of the bid that was offered by the initial holder of the prestigious project, the Lanco Infratech Globeleq Singapore Pte. The total cost of the Sasan Power Project is estimated around 20,000 crore. Anil Ambani, the Chairman of the Reliance group is pretty optimistic about the outcome of the project which is expected to bolster the growth of the Indian economy. This growth is projected with a view that the initiation of the plant would result in the increase of power generation by leaps and bounds.

The Mundra Project- A Tata Undertaking

The Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project, an initiative of the Tata group is also undergoing the procedure of garnering financial resources for the installation of this 4000 MW undertaking in Gujarat. The Sasan and Mundra projects taken together are expected to generate 70,000 MW of power.
