Indian team kept its nerve to win a needle contest against Australia by 8 runs in the 4th ODI played at Sector 16 Stadium in Chandigarh on Monday. The win, brought about by a brilliant team effort, helped India make an impressive comeback in the series after being 2-0 down with two consecutive losses in the seven-match ODI series and kept hopes of winning the series alive.
The foundation for the win was laid with a solid 79 from Sachin Tendulkar's bat supported by a quickfire 50 by MS Dhoni at the end of the innings. The bowlers also came in handy and RP Singh, Murali Kartik and Zaheer Khan delivered what was required just at the right moment keeping Australia on a leash in the last overs when they looked all set to catapult the chase into a win.
The players made it sure that they stick to the basics and didn't lose early wickets, rotated the strike regularly and built partnerships steadily which helped Indian cricket team secure its first ODI victory against Australia in the last 4 years.
Now the challenge lies in keeping the momentum going and raising the performance standards on field to ensure successive wins as India goes into the 5th ODI against Aussies to be played at I.P.C.L. Sports Complex Ground in Vadodara on Thursday.
