Team India Must Wake Up to Win the Series

With another loss being added to their credit in the 3rd ODI played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, India are now placed 2-0 down in the current 7-ODI cricket match series against Australia and need to win all of the remaining 4 matches in order to win the series.

This needs a concerted team effort from Team India, which must focus on the task at hand of winning the 4th ODI against Australia to be held on Monday, 8th October 2007 at the Sector 16 Stadium in Chandigarh. For the next two ODIs, Murali Kartik has also been brought in by selectors in place of Ramesh Powar which might prove of some help. This series has proven jinxed so far for India in that the first match itself was washed out by rain and the second one in Kochi was mired in controversy some of the cricket players from both the sides getting involved in verbal duels.

The Indian cricket team has, nonetheless, so far failed to manifest their aggression in the form of on-field performance which already cost them two crucial matches against Australia. The mistakes committed in the first two cricket matches must not be repeated to keep consistently winning against a side like Australia, who, keeping aside all the other controversies, believe in playing thoroughly professional cricket on the field. One of the most obvious failures in the last match was in not being able to get the batting act together and losing early wickets with absence of any fruitful partnerships even in the later stages of the Indian innings. The gross lack of a team effort was too apparent to everyone even as Yuvraj Singh unsuccessfully tried to get the Indian act together with his standalone knock. The Indian cricket team also failed to stop Aussies from scoring stupendous cricket scores, which has been another bone of contention for India. If Team India keeps all these past failures at the back of the mind and puts in their best efforts, there is no reason to stop them from toppling the Australian winning chariot.
