Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in lieu of the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Ist June, 2018 till 31st July, 2018. This initiative is designed with a motive to double the income of the farmers by 2022 by providing them with assistance and advice on improving their farming techniques and increasing their incomes.
Geographical Areas to be covered under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan
The Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan is carried out in 25 villages located in 111 Aspirational Districts, each with a population of more than 1000 people. These 25 villages have been identified after the discussion with the Ministry of Rural Development on the directions of NITI Aayog. In case of districts with less than 25 villages (with more than 1000 population), all the villages of that district will be covered under the scheme.
Coordination & Implementation of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra is responsible for the complete coordination and implementation of this scheme in the 25 villages of each district. A total of 111 officers have been made in-charge of all the districts to conduct overall coordination and field level monitoring. These officers have been selected from departments and organizations which fall under the ambit of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
Action Plan of Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan: Activities, Demonstrations & Training Programmes
An Action Plan of the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan comprises of the various activities which promote best practices and add to the agriculture income of the farmers.
They are:-
- Issuing Soil Health Cards to all the farmers
- 100 percent coverage of bovine vaccination for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in each village
- 100 percent coverage of Sheep and Goat for the eradication of Peste des Petits ruminants (PPR )
- Distribution of Mini Kits of pulses and oilseeds to all
- Distribution of Horticulture/Agro Forestry/Bamboo plant at the rate of Rs. 5 per family in specific areas
- Making 100 NADAP Pits in each village
- Artificial insemination saturation
Demonstration programmes apart from these activities are also carried out on Micro Irrigation and Integrated Cropping Practice in order to familiarize the farmers with the latest techniques and how it can be implemented at the grass root level.
Training programmes are being conducted in each of the villages of the Aspirational Districts by ICAR/KVSs for Bee Keeping, Mushroom cultivation and Kitchen garden. The preference will be given to the women participants and farmers for the training programme.
