UPSC Civil Services Exam
This is considered by far the toughest examination. One needs to be on the top of their game to crack this giant of an exam. Around 9 Lakh students appear for it every year but only 0.1-0.3 % make it through. The selected candidates enjoy the benefit of getting appointed to the top civil services of the government, such as the IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IFS (Indian Foreign Service), IPS (Indian Police Service), IRS (Indian Revenue Service) among others. The exam is conducted in three phases, preliminary exam, main exam followed by personality test and an interview.
CAT
CAT (Common Admission Test) offers a straight pathway to get selected into renounced management institutes offering business administration programs. This computer-based test is conducted by IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) to filter the candidates. Those who don’t make it to IIMs can also choose other reputable management institutes such as XLRI, IIFT and more. The exam tests the candidates on their analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, data interpretation, quantitative aptitude, data sufficiency, reading comprehension and verbal ability. IIT-JEE
This is the hardest exam for the Indian engineering students. Conducted by IITs (Indian Institute of Technology), the success in the exam can get you admission into IITs, NITs (National Institute of Technology) and a few other associated prestigious institutes. Lakhs of student appear in the exam but only 1 in 45 can clear it. Lately, the exam has been divided into two stages: JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Only those candidates who pass the first are allowed to sit for the second one. Besides reputed engineering colleges, many other institutes use the JEE score card to grant admission to students in various courses such as design, architecture, technology and a few science programs. GATE
GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is conducted jointly by seven IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Madras and Guwahati) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science). The exam opens the gateway to various government jobs in Engineering sector for entry-level positions and various PSU companies. The JEE score card can also be used for seeking admission in post graduate education programs, such as Master of technology, Master of Engineering, Doctor of philosophy and Master and Ph.D. in various science courses. Every year around 10 lakh students register for this highly competitive exam.
NDA
All the 10+2 candidates are required to give this exam who want to serve the nation at the border. This highly competitive exam helps the candidates to join Indian Army, Navy or the Air Force. The exam evaluates students on the basis of psychological aptitude tests, a written examination, intelligence and personality test followed by SSB Interview. The exam is conducted two times in a year, once in April and other in September. After clearing the exam, the aspiring candidates undergo training at the NDA for getting ready for the job.
