Momos, a little pocket of happiness, is a gastronomical delight for every other person. Just a visual of a plate of momos with the spicy red chutney makes a street food lover’s tongue tickle. Steamed veg momos

The most popular type of momos are the steamed veg momos. Steamed saucy momos when dipped in spicy garlic sauce is an absolute delight for the momo lovers.

Note : The cup measures 250 ml

Ingredients-

For outer cover-

  • All purpose flour – 2 cups
  • Salt
  • Water

For filling-

  • Chopped veggies like cabbage, carrots and capsicum – 4 cups
  • Onions- 1/4 cup (chopped)
  • Black pepper powder- 1/4 tbsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt

Steps to follow-

For making outer covering-

  • Make a dough using all purpose flour and keep it aside for 30 mins.
  • Do not forget to add a pinch of salt in the dough for better taste.

For making filling –

  • Take a pan and pour oil into it so that the vegetables could be fried.
  • Fry the vegetables on medium flame.
  • Add onion and semi-fry for better taste.
  • Add pepper powder and salt once the vegetables get cooled.
  • You can also add soy sauce or other spices to enrich the taste.

Shaping the momos-

  • Divide the dough into equal parts and start making small circles.
  • Now, make small tortillas of the dough balls and put one spoon filling in the centre of it.
  • Try to keep edges thin and centre thick.
  • Now, fold the momo and make pleats.
  • Repeat the process and similarly make other momos.
  • Cover them with a wet kitchen towel until you are ready to steam them.

For steaming –

  • Boil water in cooker or other big vessel with broad mouth.
  • Grease a pan and arrange the momos in it with proper spacing.
  • Keep the pan over cooker or the vessel and cover it.
  • Keep a check on momos and wait for them to get steamed.
  • Once the outer layer starts changing the color and they don’t appear sticky understand they are done.
  • Serve hot by slicing onions with garlic chutney.

Soya momos

Soya is protein-rich so is preferred by health conscious people. Those who avoid cabbage consumption and want to have a healthier version of momos usually munch on soya momos.

Ingredients-

For outer cover-

  • All purpose flour – 2 cups
  • Salt
  • Water

For filling-

  • Soy granules soaked in water – 1 cup
  • Garlic cloves (chopped)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil- 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar
  • Soya sauce

Steps to follow-

For making outer covering-

  • Make a dough using all purpose flour and keep it aside for 30 mins.
  • Add a pinch of salt in the dough for better taste.

For making filling 

  • Take a pan and pour oil into it.
  • Fry the soy granules on medium flame.
  • Add chopped garlic to it and semi-fry for better taste.
  • Add vinegar, soy sauce and salt once the mixture gets cooled.
  • You can also add other spices to enrich the taste.

  • Onion – 1/4 cup ( chopped)

  • Oil- 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar
  • Soya sauce

  • Tomato puree- 2 cups
  • Butter – half cup
  • Pepper powder
  • salt
  • Garam masala
  • Cloves – 2
  • Chillies – 2
  • Ginger garlic paste – 2 tbsp
  • Bayleaf – 4
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cream – 2 cups

Steps to follow 

  • Add 2 tbsp of butter in a large pan kept over medium heat and pour cloves, chillies and cumin seeds into it.
  • Now, add ginger garlic paste and tomato puree and saute over medium flame.
  • You can also add onions in the puree.
  • Add pepper powder salt, garam masala, bayleaf and continue to saute over medium flame.
  • Once you see that the puree is getting thick add cream to it and turn off the flame.
  • Pour the puree over the momos and serve hot.

Afghani momos

If you want to have succulent and delicious momos then you must try these extremely tasty Afghani momos. The only challenge faced while making these phenomenal momos is that you have to go an extra mile and grill the momos. You need to make veg or non-veg momos and deep fry them. Once they are deep fried you can grill them in pre-heated oven by setting it on grill mode. (200 degrees celsius).

To prepare the marinade of Afghani momos read below-

  • In a bowl combine curd, cream, mint leaves, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and pepper powder. Mix them well and pour the mixture over grilled momos.
