How to Make Butter Rusk at Home! Ingredients List and Recipe

Rusk and a hot cup of tea are a staple image for every Indian household. No other bond is as strong as this crunchy and delicious tea snack combined with sweet tea.

Biscuits, although very normal, it is rusk that is available in every Indian roadside tea stall. Found in enormous boxes for everyone to enjoy. It is almost an underrated snack that you can experiment with and create sweet or savoury snacks.

There are many variants available in markets, such as the ‘elaichi and saunf rusk’, butter rusk, plain rusk or soft cake, like milk rusk. Rusk is also an item that can be easily made at home with your choice of ingredients! 

Here is a yummy recipe for crunchy and milky butter rusks.

Ingredients to prepare Butter Rusk at home:

  • Flour/whole-wheat flour according to your choice – 150 grams
  • Cornstarch – 15 grams 
  • Butter – 30 grams 
  • Dry Yeast – 7 grams 
  • Milk powder – 20 grams 
  • Condensed milk – 20 grams 
  • Milk – 80 grams 
  • One pinch of salt
  • One pinch of cinnamon powder (this is an optional step for taste)

Step by Step Butter Rusks Recipe:

  1. Take a large mixing bowl, add the flour, dry yeast, cornstarch, milk powder, salt, cinnamon powder and mix it.
  2. Now add the condensed milk, butter and milk to the dry mixture. Mix till its all combined
  3. Knead it till it looks like dough. Keep kneading for a while longer till it seems smooth.
  4. Let the kneaded dough rest for 45 minutes.
  5. After the dough is rested, take it and cut it into two parts.
  6. Roll them into cylindrical shapes and proof them
  7. Put the rolls in the oven for 20 minutes at 180°C
  8. Take it out and let it cool.
  9. After cooling, cut the roll into slices and bake the slices again for 20 minutes at 120°C this time.
  10. Crispy and buttery rusks are ready. Let them cool again and enjoy with tea.
