What Is The G20 Summit And India’s Presidency?

The motto of G20 is Recover Together, Recover Stronger.

G20 is a global summit that is important in geo-political and diplomatic aspects. It took place in Bali, Indonesia, on November 15 2022. The summit is the 17th meeting of G20, a group of 20 countries. Last year this summit was under the presidency of Bali in 2021, ending in the fourth quarter of 2022.

India’s G20 presidency

This year PM Modi launched a logo for G20, which derives inspiration from our Indian flag colours saffron, white and green, and blue. It contrasts Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower symbolising progress despite obstacles. The Earth reflects India’s pro-planet philosophy of living perfectly with the environment.

“Bharat” in the Devanagari script appears beneath the G20 logo. The design of the logo was inspired by components found in several entries submitted as part of an open competition. Over 2000 entries were introduced to the contest that was held on the MyGov platform. This is consistent with the prime minister’s vision for Jan Bhagidari during India’s G20 presidency.

The Maha Upanishad, a prehistoric Sanskrit scripture, is the inspiration for the “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, which serves as the subject of India’s G20 Presidency. The topic essentially emphasises the importance of all life—human, animal, plant, and microorganism—and their interdependence on Earth and across the universe.

The topic also emphasises LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), with its associated environmentally sound and responsible decisions made at the level of individual lifestyles and national development, leading to globally transformative activities that result in a cleaner, greener, and bluer future.

As we move through India’s G20 Presidency, the logo and the theme combined to send a potent message of striving for just and equitable progress for everyone globally. The G20 group, which represents two-thirds of the world’s population, will now be led and chaired by India. You may appreciate the significant opportunity that the nation has before it in the “Amrit Kal” of Independence. For every Indian, it is a source of pride.

“In Indian mythology, the Goddesses of prosperity and knowledge are shown sitting on a lotus flower. The world needs this shared expertise that aids in overcoming our challenges and shared wealth that extends to everyone inside the final mile. The logo’s seven lotus petals have special significance. They portray the seven continents. Additionally, the universal language of music has seven notes. In music, perfect harmony is produced when all seven notes are played simultaneously. But every note is distinct in its way. Similar to how the G20 seeks to unite the world in harmony.

India’s presidency at G20 is a leading opportunity for the Indian nation. It is a proud moment for the country to create a platform to lead and grow global confidence. India will officially assume it from December 1, 2022, to November 301, 2023.
