The problem in the making of a sequel lies in the fact that it tends to fall in the realm of comparison. A sequel is supposed to be bigger and better and just in case it is a sequel off a Rohit Shetty film, the expectations shoot sky-high! The much awaited sequel of the 2011 blockbuster Singham roared back to the silver screen today. For the hardcore Singham fans, their super-cop is back with a bang, quite literally!

Plot: Moving ahead with the baseline of its prequel, the fearless police officer Bajirao Singham is now the DCP of a bigger city. This time he takes on a corrupt politician supported by a fake Godman for black money rackets and dirty politics. To get his way, Singham not only has to fight the politicians but also the law itself!

Performances: Ajay Devgan is by far the most robust and impressive police officer in Bollywood. The kind of power he emulates as an angry policeman is absolutely laudable. His strong conviction of the character makes you love every bit of his performance.

Kareena Kapoor literally tries hard to seek attention but despite of all her efforts she fails to make any mark. Her acting seems like a forced one and her expressions completely masked. She is only a pretty respite from the serious faces in the film.

Anupam Kher does a fantastic job in spite of a shorter screen presence. Mahesh Manjrekar is also good enough.

As for the villains, Zakir Hussain and Amol Gupte fail to evoke any kind of fear. In fact, their characters seem to be more caricaturish than villainous!

Music: The music score of Singham Returns has been composed by a number of artists this time. There are four songs in the album and each one has its own charm. Other than the title song, Kuch toh hua hai is a refreshing tune this time!

What’s Good: When the king of action comes to work, he does it with full zest and energy. There is more action, more stunts, more cars flying and to sum up it has more masala in terms of the empowering role of the police. The music is also a good addition. Action is definitely Rohit Shetty’ forte and Ajay Devgan his perfect partner! It is only because of Ajay that a film with such high-octane action does impeccably well on the screen.

What’s Bad: In spite of a bigger format, Singham Returns is not better than its prequel. This time it loses on its plot which unfortunately lacks novelty.

Singham Returns was deemed as one of the most anticipated sequels of Bollywood. Perhaps, the audience has greater expectations from it owing to the success of Singham. Even though the film has its own short-commings, one thing that Rohit Shetty is consistent in doing is to entertain the audience thoroughly. And that is exactly what Singham Returns offers! Better or not, but Singham Returns is definitely watchable!

Verdict: Singham Returns makes you proud about the Police Force!

Rating: ** and a half
