One slap is enough to put everything in perspective. The trailer of Thappad by Anubhav Sinha is aimed at inspecting how much violence is too much violence.
The trailer starts with the issue where a Section of the constitution is being read out loudly as if it reminds women that violence of any kind is not acceptable and that is bolstered up legally.
To the question of what compels the divorce, the lawyer asks Pannu whether it is the family or is the husband having an extramarital affair. Or is she having an extramarital affair? The answer is no. The lawyer further asks, “…so it is just a slap then? To which she very assertively says, “Just a slap … par nahi mar sakta.”
The trailer then gives us a glimpse of the marriage where, Tapsee Pannu who is playing the wife in the film, has a so-to-say happy home and a loving husband but her world turns upside down after a humiliating incident where her husband played by Pavail Gulati slaps her at a house party.
The trailer very consciously and precisely makes a point that even if it is a one-time thing in a healthy marriage, a slap is not okay.
Some say that the trailer is a tight slap on Kabir Singh which very clearly justifies physical and emotional abuse in the name of love.
From the director of Article 15 and Mulk, Thappad is set to release on February 28.
