August 29 is a red letter day for the Indian sports. On this day in 1905 hockey wizard Dhyan Chand was born in Allahabad. This man thrilled the entire world with his magical display of hockey. He pulled crowd’s attention with his shrewd stick work and judicious passes. This sensational player made the nation proud with his articulate game by winning three consecutive gold medals in Olympics from 1928 to 1936. The country celebrates August 29 as the National Sports Day every year on the commemoration of Dhyan Chand.

Fit India Movement

Prime minister Narendra Modi has filled more colours on this occasion this year. Modi has been taking keen interest in boosting sporting culture across the country. On the occasion of Khel Diwas, Prime Minister unveiled the ‘Fit India Movement’ at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in the capital.

The objective behind this campaign is to encourage common people to adopt sports and inculcate physical activities in their everyday lives. Modi also encouraged the people to remain healthy and pay attention on your fitness. Paying tribute to the legend Dhyan Chand. He said, “On this day, a great sportsperson was born, Major Dhyan Chand. He amazed the world with his fitness, stamina, and hockey stick.”
