What is digital detox and its importance?

Smartphones, apps and social media platforms, etc., are designed so that people feel left behind in fear of missing out (FOMO) when they are not there. This feeling keeps you hooked to these screens. With the advent of smartphones, people ignore face-to-face conversations. Spending more time in front of the screen affects our memory. Our communication skills also get affected badly.

Digital Detox means staying away from your digital devices for some time so that your mind can get relief and rest. However, it is not easy to do in today’s time. It becomes necessary for mental peace and intellectual abilities.

Are you one of those who spend most of their time on their smartphone or laptops? Have you started forgetting small things? In other words, do you feel ‘short term memory loss’? So take this thing seriously, because these days most of the people who spend a lot of time on the screen, this is the condition them. It simply means they need a digital detox.

Here are some ways by which you can try to digital detox and improve your performance:

  • Change the device settings

Smartphones are designed so that you cannot live without being attracted to them. Therefore, you should act smarter with a smartphone for a digital detox. Just turn off notifications of all the installed applications. Keep only the telephone directory on the home screen or a couple of apps. Keep the color theme of your phone a bit colourless.

  • Set small goals

You can’t reduce the use of your phone in a day. So, decide that you will not see the phone from a particular period to a specific time at the beginning of the day. This is the time when the phone is not needed much like this. If the person calls you, then talk to him.

  • Do not wander on social media unnecessarily

When you start doing this, set a time limit on the use of the phone during the day, as you will spend only half an hour on social media or websites. It can also be done that one day in a week, the whole family should sit together, talk or go for a walk instead of using the internet for numerous hours.

  • Stick to the decision

Once you have decided to do a digital detox, stick to your decision. Within three days, you will feel an improvement in your memory, feel lightness in your head, and feel an increase in your abilities. Once you feel that way, you will want to continue with the digital detox on your own. So if you have started and broken this sequence after a day, try again. Do not watch the screen during the break. Six to eight hours of the day are exposed to the screen in the office. In such a situation, instead of checking any website or social media platform in the short breaks that you take in between work, do a five-minute walk or stretch while sitting in a chair, making you feel relaxed.
