BSES Andhra Power


BSES Andhra Power, a former subsidiary of BSES Company, has now become an associate company of Reliance Limited, and has been overlooking the Samalkot power plant at Orissa.

BSES Andhra Power Limited is a joint venture company which was previously a subsidiary of the BSES Group. The BSES Group has been overtaken by Reliance Energy Limited and the two groups have merged together in the year 2002.

Subsidiary Companies of BSES

The BSES Group has even agreed to rename the company as Reliance Energy Limited and shortly after the merger the subsidiary companies of BSES like BSES Rajdhani Power, BSES Telecom, BSES Yamuna Power, BSES Andhra Power and others have now become the associate companies of Reliance Energy Limited.

BSES Company

BSES or Bombay Suburban Electric Supply Limited) was one of the leading private sector power utility companies which ranked the highest in all fields. The company was established in the year 1929 and mainly dealt with the allocation of electricity in the Mumbai suburbs. The company gradually emerged successful in the transmission, generation and power distribution sector and initially in Mumbai city alone, it served the needs of 2.23 million customers. In the year 1999, the Company acquired 51% shares in three power Distribution Companies of Orissa and tried to reform the entire power distribution sector of Orissa.

Samalkot Power Station

The BSES Andhra Power, a former subsidiary of BSES had established a 220 MW dual fuel based combined power station at the Samalkot region of Andhra Pradesh. This unit has been functioning since February, 2003 and transmits power to AP Transco. At present, the maintenance of this power unit is overlooked by the Reliance Energy group which owns 83% equity shares in the BSES Andhra Power.

After the BSES Andhra Power plant has been overtaken by the Reliance Group, it has been expanding to great heights.
