About Saheliyon ki Bari

Saheliyon ki Bari, a famous landmark in the city, known for its awe-inspiring beauty and surreal charm, takes you back to the royal era, where kings were extremely particular about their queen's comfort and did all that they could. The garden was built by Maharana Sangram Singh for his princess' maidens who came as dowry in her marriage. The king wanted a separate area for them, where they could spend their time leisurely.

The garden is surrounded by lush green trees, magnificent lotus pools and elephant shaped fountains. Interestingly, the source of the water from the fountains is the Fateh Sagar Lake. It is said that each water channel has a different sound which gives a soothing effect and creates a peaceful aura all around the garden. The center of the garden has a white marble 'chattri' fountain with corners adorned with black marble.

The water fountains which were imported from England by Maharana Bhopal Singh are located around the main reservoir, and the beauty of the main reservoir lies in the four black marbled kiosks on its corners and one white marbled kiosk in the centre and on the top of these kiosks. The fountains are placed with beautifully sculpted birds through which water flows almost creating a rain effect. Another astonishing fact about this famous landmark is the garden, which runs completely by the use of water pressure and no pumps are used for the inflow of water.

For history buffs, there is a small museum displaying a collection of rich royal heritage supported by pictures and paintings. You may also have an opportune sighting of a stuffed cobra, if you are one of the lucky ones!

Saheliyon Ki Bari is located on the north side of Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur. The beautiful tourist spot is easily accessible by local buses, auto rickshaws and taxis.
