Located at about 96 kilometers away from Udaipur, Ranakpur is famous for its intricately carved Jain Temples. It is, in fact, one of the holy places belonging to the Jain community in India. The Jain Temples of Ranakpur were constructed in 15th century AD. Among the Jain Temples, the centrally located temple of Rishabhji is a marvel to look at. Spread over an area of 48, 000 square feet, this Ranakpur temple possesses 1444 pillars and 29 halls. Muchhal Mahaveer is another famous Jain temple of Ranakpur that enshrines the statue of Lord Mahavira. A characteristic feature of this temple is that the idol has a mustache.

Apart from the temples, Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the popular tourist attractions of Ranakpur that catches the attention of the tourists. Covering an area of 586 square kilometers, the wildlife sanctuary possesses different species including four horned antelope, wild boar, sloth bear, panther and many more.

Ranakpur lies just 98kms away from the city if Udaipur. The place owes its name to Rana Kunbha who ruled the area in 15th century. Today a lot of tourists travel to Ranakapur to visit the magnificent temples.

A travel to Ranakpur would take you to one of the five holiest pilgrimage sites of the Jains. Rana Kumbha also built the temples during his reign. A sprawling cluster of temples built of dazzling white marble on the lush green backdrop of the Aravalis greets you as you travel to Ranakpur.

An enchanting story goes into the making of the temples. As per an inscription in the temple, Dharnaka, an affluent and reputed Jain merchant was inspired by his dream. Pleased by this tale, Rana Kunbha donated a large tract of land in the Aravalli foothills for the purpose of building the temple.

How to Reach Ranakpur

Lying close to Udaipur in Rajasthan, Ranakpur is the site of magnificent Jain Temples. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for the Jains. But the architectural splendor on the backdrop of the Aravalis, is a major attraction for many who travel to Ranakpur.

Most of the tourists prefer to visit Ranakpur while driving from Jodhpur to Udaipur. You may also choose to take a separate excursion to Ranakpur from Udaipur.

By Air

The nearest airport to Ranakpur is Udaipur. The domestic airport is served by nearly all private and public airlines. Regular flights connect Udaipur to cities like Delhi, Mumbai.

By Rail

The most convenient Railway Station is also Udaipur, which is connected to other major cities with a well-laid Rail network. By Road

Ranakpur lies only 90kms away from Udaipur. An excellent road network links Udaipur to other major cities in Rajasthan.
