Auli is a purely adventure hotspot where passionate brave-hearts come for fun and frolic with snow all around. But hardly anybody goes for shopping in Auli. In fact there are not much for shopping in Auli.In the snowy wilderness of Auli you would find neither artisans nor shops to sell artifacts.

This hill station, Auli, is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 2,500 metres. One can get the magnificent view of the snow capped Himalayan ranges. The soft snow laden slopes are apt for skiing. There are wonderful opportunities for trekking and nature walks in the nearby places.Prior to be being developed as a ski resort, the slopes were used as the training ground for the ski-equipped personnel. Trishul is one of the many high peaks in Auli (around 23,490-feet tall).

Located at a distance of 16 kms from Joshimath, the slopes in Auli are all 9000 feet above the sea level and densely covered with deodar and oak forests, thereby reducing velocity. From here one can get awesome views of the Nanda Devi, Kamet, Mana Parvat and Dunagiri ranges.

If you are an adventure freak, the best time to visit Auli is definitely during the winters. Skiers choose the November to late March season to visit this place.

How to Reach Auli

In the snow-laden wilderness of the Garhwal Himalayas, Auli in India is perched at an altitude of 2,500 to 3,050 meters above sea level. The Alpine vegetation and lofty mountains with breathtaking slopes covered in snow in Auli offer a perfect haven for the adventure lovers. Of late the place has gained prominence as a ski-hotspot.

By Air

The nearest airport from Auli is in Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun (approx 300kms away). Quite a few airlines operate flights to and from Dehradun connecting it to other Indian cities.

By Train

The nearest railhead from Auli is at Haridwar (approx 300kms). Several important trains link Haridwar to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Allahabad and so on.

By Road

Although Auli is located in remote of the Garhwal Himalayas, a good network of roads cover the place. In fact the beast idea to reach Auli is by road from Joshimath from where Auli is only 13ksm drive. Other prominent cities in Uttaranchal and north India, such as: Rishikesh (253kms), Haridwar (277kms), Dehradun (298kms) and Delhi (500kms) lie in proximity to Auli and connected by drivable roads.

By Cable Car

The most popular way to reach Auli is by cable car. The last 3kms journey by the ropeway would drop you right in Auli. Apart from the convenience, the bird's eye view you get from the cable car is an irresistible charm.

Shopping in Auli

Only 13kms away from Auli, the little township is a popular tourist destination and has bustling markets, which substitute for the lack of opportunity for shopping in Auli. Pick up woolen caps, blankets, shawls from Joshimath for gift items and souvenirs.

You may also shop at Dehradun, which is the capital city of Uttaranchal. Basmati Rice, woodcrafts, paintings are popular items for shopping in Dehradun.
