Gangotri attracts loads of tourists every year.The enchanting nature and the mystical aura around this place have left people mesmerized. There is a supernatural touch attached with this place.

Embedded in the wonderful Garhwal hills, Gangotri at an altitude of 3,048 meters is very near to the Indo-Tibetan border. From Dehradun, Gangotri is about 300 km, 250 km from Rishikesh and 105 km from Uttarkashi. Temperatures in Gangotri during the summers are also moderately low with freezing cold winters.

How to Reach Gangotri

Gangotri is located in the heart of the Himalayas. As per the popular belief this is the origin of the sacred river the Ganges, which lends the place its sanctity. The place has extra ordinary natural beauty too.

It is not very easy to reach here high in the Himalayas. At an altitude of 3048 mtrs The austere landscape poses daunting challenges to the adventure seekers. But when is it that challenges have barred the travelers from reaching a place on earth !!

By Air

The nearest airport from Jolly Grant in Dehradun. Dehradun is the capital city in Uttaranchal. Quite a few airlines operate regular flights connecting Dehradun to various other cities in north India.

By Train

Gangotri does not have a rail station of its own. The nearest rail station is located in Haridwar, which linked to cities like Kolkata (Howrah), Mumbai, Delhi and Lucknow.

By Road

The best option to reach Gangotri is by road. A network of roads connects Gangotri to Rishikesh, which is again linked to Dehradun, Delhi.

Shopping in Gangotri

Gangotri is not a destination where you can shop till you drop. Lively markets bulging with traditional handicrafts and antiques are conspicuous by their absence in the remote wilderness of Gangotri.

But returning from a tour to Gangotri without shopping in Gangotri may sound impossible if you were a true shopaholic.
