Alappuzha geography comprises of various types of water bodies like lakes, rivers, lagoons etc. The city is located between 9.50° North Latitude and 76.33° East Longitude. The total population of Alappuzha has been recorded as187600. The geography of Alappuzha is diverse.


There are a number of rivers and lakes in Alappuzha that flows through the city. Alleppey is gifted with immense natural beauty with the Arabian sea on its west. The city has a vast network of lakes, lagoons and fresh water rivers. Due to their closeness to the city it has developed an unparalleled destination in the maritime map of India. For its unique beauty it has been called as the Venice of the east.

The network of canals developed in the city encloses the west coast canal system. The canal system is Alappuzha used for navigation. The Vembanad Lake located in Alappuzha is the most important of canal system the west coast.
