Dual Degree Courses in India

Dual Degree Courses in India

Dual Degree courses are programmes in which two degrees are awarded even though one enrolls into a single study course for a consolidated time period. The person is given a Bachelors and a Masters degree in the same programme but in less time. For example, a B.Tech and a M.Tech degree require five years for completion in dual degree programmes; however, it takes six years to complete both the degrees, if taken separately. This concept of degree was influenced by the foreign education system and was introduced in India by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

Advantages

  • It helps students to complete two degrees in a shorter span of time.
  • It also costs less in terms of fees and other educational expenses.
  • It offers scope for research or higher degrees like another Masters or a PhD.
  • It can also help the students to increase their network as they get to meet many students, people, academicians and professionals.
Disadvantages

  • The biggest challenge is that the students have to take the pressure of both the courses and degrees and the sudden transition from one course to another many not be easy for every one.
  • The dual degree course restricts the choice to change the college if the student wishes to do so after completion of one degree.
