Types of MBA

There are many types of MBA programs that you can choose from.
  • Regular MBA program: This program comprises two years of a degree course that begins from July or August every year and ends in May. You have to attend classes regularly in the college or institute every weekday.
  • Part-time MBA: This program is for working individuals who cannot attend classes in the college because of their jobs. Therefore, these students attend classes in the night. The program may last up to three years.
  • Distance MBA: This program allows students to complete the degree course online or off campus. There are online institutions that are affiliated to universities that provide learning resources and the MBA degree.
  • Accelerated MBA: This program is of shorter duration than the regular program as there are no summer breaks. Other than that, it is similar to regular MBA.

Admission procedure

Admissions are solely based on the entrance exam conducted by the particular university or institution. Entrance exam is mandatory, after which candidates have to appear for group discussion. Later on, a personal interview is held, along with essay writing. Based on the performance, candidates are enrolled in the particular college. Some of the common national-level tests are:
  • CAT: This entrance exam is accepted by all top MBA colleges in India like IIMs and 100 more universities.
  • XAT: For XIM Bhubaneshwar, XLRI Jamshedpur, S.P.Jain
  • SNAP: Symbiosis University
  • MH-CET: For colleges in Maharashtra state
  • CMAT: All India Council of Technical Education

There are other business schools in India that also conduct individual entrance tests.

Selection process

Candidates have to first appear for the written test that comprises various areas like Mathematics, English, Analytical and Logical reasoning, etc. This is a computer-based test and takes around 2 to 2-½ hours. Candidates are shortlisted according to the marks scored and then progress to the next stage, i.e. group discussion. In group discussion, students have to talk about a given subject and express their opinion. After this, personal interview is conducted and after passing in all the three stages, candidates get a call.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for an MBA program offered by top MBA colleges candidates have to complete their graduation, with at least 50% aggregate marks. The candidate can be a graduate in any discipline like commerce, science, engineering, humanities etc.

Benefits of the course

Today there is a great need for managerial roles, which the MBA degree holders are well equipped to fulfil. They have the knowledge about management and how to handle issues related to work and corporations. There are various fields that one can specialise in, like sales, accounting, finance, human resource, economy and many more. One definitely advances his career prospects and has plenty of job opportunities. Further, most of the employers these days want their employees to have an MBA degree.

Even a fresh graduate can earn a handsome salary in many companies. Plenty of MNCs in India offer high packages to MBA graduates. Besides, there are incentives as well. Additionally, the MBA degree holders learn a lot from top-level professionals, who provide them with firsthand knowledge of business and its working. However, the salary also depends upon the college the candidate has taken degree from. If the college is among the top 10 MBA colleges in the country, then the candidate will never have to look back.
