Sunil Dutt



The actor, Sunil Dutt who was born on June 6, 1929 in the city of Jalandhar and heads the list of eminent Jalandhar people. He struggled in the early days of his life and grew to be one of the most honorable entertainers, social activists and politicians of the country.

Sunil Dutt studied in the Jai Hind College in Mumbai and started his career as a host of a show on Radio Ceylon. He debuted in the film industry as an actor in the movie Railway Platform directed by Ramesh Saigal in the year 1955. He rose to popularity with his outstanding performance as the raging and defiant son of Nargis in the movie Mother India directed by Mehboob Khan released in the year 1957. The magnum opus not only won him the recognition in the film industry but also the love of the reputed actress Nargis who later became his wife. The actor, Sunil Dutt has performed in the varied roles as a comedian, romantic lover, village bumpkin and antisocial under the direction of reputed film directors like Bimal Roy, B R Chopra, Hrishikesh Mukherji and A. Subba Rao. He has himself produced movies like Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke, Mujhe Jeene Do and Dard Ka Rishta which were produced after the agonizing death of his wife, Nargis Dutt who suffered from cancer.

Sunil Dutt has also worked as a social activist, establishing the Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation. During the tumultuous times of the raging Sikh militancy in the state of Punjab, he paraded from Mumbai to the Golden Temple in Amritsar to pray for peace. As a politician, Sunil Dutt has won many elections from the North West constituency in Mumbai. He breathed his last while holding office as the Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs for the Union Government.
