Kollam Attractions

Kollam attractions play a significant role in promoting the tourism industry of Kerala. Kollam is one the most beautiful cities of Kerala that attracts many tourists from across the world. Kollam has a number of tourist attractions due to which it is included in the tour itinerary of Kerala. Kollam is located along the edges of the Ashtamudi Lake. The Ashtamudi Lake is a tourist hot spot in Kollam. The Children's Traffic and Entertainment Park planned by NATPAC, is one of the interesting Kollam attractions. Along the shores of the Astamudi backwaters, the Adventure Park is situated which is an exciting place to spend time.

There are many religious places including temples, churches and mosques in and around Kollam. Some of the popular churches of Kollam are Our Lady of Purification church, Port Kollam Church, St. Antony’s Capuchin Friary at Tillery, Pullichira Church and Pattathanam Church. The Pullichira Church was founded in 1700 A.D. The Chinnakkada Palli is one of the oldest and most important mosques in Kollam. Some of the famous temples near the city are Oachira Parabrahma Temple, Chittumala Durgadevi Temple, Mukhathala Murari, Rameswaram Mahadeva Temple, Sakthikulangara Sree Dharmasastha Temple, Sasthamkotta Ayyappa Temple, Vadayattukotta Unichakkam Veedu Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, Kadavoor Mahadeva Temple.

Thangasseri is a seaside village that is known for its historical importance. It is situated about 5 kilometers from the city of Kollam. The village possesses the ruins of an old Portuguese fort, which was built in the 18th century. The Thangassery beach and the Light House that is about 144 feet in height feature as prominent tourist attractions of Kollam. The travelers willing to visit the lighthouse can enter the lighthouse between 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

Thirumullavaram Beach is situated about 6 kilometers north of Kollam town. It is a secluded beach, which is known for its picturesque beauty. The beach is one of the popular tourist sites in Kollam. The tourists can enjoy swimming at the Thirumullavaram Beach of Kollam.

The beautiful Palaruvi Waterfalls, one of the most enchanting waterfalls in Kerala is located in Palaruvi and is visited by thousands of tourists every year. Located on Kollam-Shancottah road, Palaruvi waterfall falls from a height of 300 feet. Some of the other significant places of local sight seeing in Kollam are Mahatma Gandhi beach, Ashramam picnic village and a park at Kochupilamoodu.
