Guwahati is the largest city of Assam and one of the most developed cities of the North-Eastern region of India. It is situated on the south side of Brahmaputra river and is known as the city of Eastern light. Guwahati is also one of the fastest growing cities in India. It is a major riverine port city and provides a link to various other north-eastern states.

One can find the rich history and culture of North-East in this city. It has various famous monuments, museums, markets, architectural showcases, wildlife sanctuaries, and temples. Kamakhya temple is the most famous temple in Guwahati and is frequented by numerous pilgrims every year. Other than Kamakhya temple, Umananda temple is another famous temple which is located in the centre of the Brahmaputra river.

The city of Guwahati is famous for its modern and cosmopolitan culture. Guwahati houses Dispur, which is the political capital of the state. The Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) also has its headquarters in Guwahati. This city is extremely famous for its festival of Bohag Bihu which also denotes the beginning of the Assamese New Year. Various sweet dishes and delicious meals, which are purely vegetarian, are cooked to celebrate this festival and tourists from all over the country visit Guwahati to attend it.

By rail:

The city has its own railway station named the Guwahati Railway Station which is located in the Paltan Bazar area of the city.

By road:

The city is well-connected to various major cities of the north-east region. National highway 31, 37 etc. connect this city with Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
