Phase 2 of voting has officially come to an end. Election Commission of India has declared final voter turnout numbers.West Bengal ranks No. 1 with 75.27% polling. Jammu and Kashmir, predictably, made for the bottom with 43.37% polling. All put together, voter turnout has been pegged at 67%

Tamil Nadu Recorded 63.73% Turnout by 5 PM

By 5 PM, the voter turnout was recorded to be 63.73% in Tamil Nadu. The parliamentary constituency of Kanyakumari recorded 55.07%. The highest polling percentage was recorded by P. Chidambaram’s Lok Sabha seat – 70.73%.

61.84% voter turnout has been recorded in Karnataka by 5 PM. Assam has scored even higher with 73.32% voter turnout.

Re-polling Demanded in Odisha at 4 Booths

More than 76.93 lakh people have voted in Odisha by 3 PM. This translates to 53% of total voter turnout. However, due to some issues, the re-polling has been demanded in 4 booths. There have been some Naxal affected areas as well.

Manipur Records High Voter Turnout of 67.5% by 3 PM

The voter turnout by 3 PM for more states has been declared. Tamil Nadu records 52%, Maharashtra 46.6%, Manipur 67.5%, Odisha 53%, Chhattisgarh 59.7%, Karnataka 49.3%, and Uttar Pradesh 50.4%.

The voter turnout by 3 PM has been declared for the states of Odisha and Tamil Nadu. The former records 53% and the latter has had 52.02% of voters.

WB Reports 65.43% Voter Turnout till 3 PM

The voting turnout by 3 PM for West Bengal has been declared. The state has recorded a voter turnout of 65.43%. Its 3 parliamentary constituencies – Raiganj, Darjeeling, and Jalpaiguri have recorded 61.84%, 63.14%, and 71.32% respectively. Numerous incidents have happened there like violence. Despite that, the voter percentage has turned out to be considerably good.

The voter turnout by 3 PM has been revealed for more states. UP recorded 50.39%, Manipur 67.5%, Chhattisgarh 59.72%, Karnataka 67.5%, and Maharashtra 46.63%. Jammu and Kashmir had 38.5% voter turnout. Srinagar reported 5.7%.

The voter turnout by 3 PM has been revealed for a few states. Karnataka records 49.26% of voter turnout and Inner Manipur 67.5%. Meanwhile,  Raman Singh, former CM of Chhattisgarh, along with his family, cast his vote for the parliamentary constituency of Rajnandgaon. Earlier an IED blast occurred in Chhattisgarh and the turnout is good for the state despite it.

Chennai Reports Peaceful Polling

While there have been deaths, violence, and blasts at or near the polling stations in other places, there’s one city which proudly boasts peaceful polling all the way till afternoon. Chennai City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan claims that the voting has been incident free all throughout until the afternoon.

By 1 PM, the overall voter turnout of 35% has been recorded in Vidarbha’s (Maharashtra) 3 constituencies – Buldhana, Amravati, and Akola. Particularly, Buldhana recorded 33% voter turnout, Amravati 36.15 %, and Akola about 33%.

Violence Amid Polling

Violence has been observed in many places in West Bengal. A party candidate’s car has also been attacked. Even stones were pelted at one candidate of CPM (Mohammad Salim) while he was on his way to vote. Salim is pitted against Congress’ Deepa Dusmunsi. Congress has a strong hold on this seat.

The voter turnout by 1 PM has been declared for a number of states. Assam records 46.42% of voter turnout, Bihar 32%, Tamil Nadu 40%, Chhattisgarh 47%, and Karnataka 28.5%. The turnout has been considered good and is over 30% for most of the states.

47% Polling till 1 PM in Chhattisgarh

The polling has been held in 3 Lok Sabha seats in Chhattisgarh. More than 47% voter turnout has been recorded for in the state amid tight security. The polling began at 7 AM in Mahasamund, Rajnandgaon, and Kanker Lok Sabha seats. The turnout has been considered good despite the Naxal presence.

Bihar Recorded around 25% Voter Turnout

Bihar recorded a total voter turnout of 25.6% by 12 PM. Some of its prominent constituencies had about one-fourth of the total eligible voters by noon. Bhagalpur recorded 23%, Banka 28.3%, Punrea 25.5%, Kishanganj 26.2%, and Katihar 25%.

Cuddalore Recorded Brisk Voting

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, reported brisk voting today in the early hours. K. S. Alagiri, TNCC president, is one of the heavyweights who have cast their votes. Alagiri cast his vote in Keerapalayam’s Panchayat Union Elementary School. By 9 AM, the constituency had recorded 5% turnout.

About 40% Voter Turnout in Tamil Nadu till 1 PM

Tamil Nadu has recorded an average voter turnout of 39.49% till 1 pm. So far, the state has 692 VVPATs and 384 EVMs changed since morning. Dharmapuri LS records 39.92%, Krishnagiri LS 41.21%, Periyakulam 32.32%, Chennai South 37.96%, Chennai Central 36.09%, Namakkal 41.56%, Virudhunagar 38.40%, Cuddalore 36%, Tiruppur 38.40%, Pollachi 22.97%, Nilgiris 32.7%, Kallakurichi 49.33%, and Villupuram 49.23%.

Parties Clash, Break Alliances

According to an AAP leader Sanjay Singh, the alliance between Congress and AAP has been cancelled following a disagreement. As per Singh, the conflict was over a tie-up in Delhi and Haryana. Meanwhile, CPM might clash with TMC as there’s an attack on the former party’s candidate. It is being speculated that TMC is behind it.

Fake Voting Alleged by BJP Candidate

A case of fake voting has come up in Amroha. According to a BJP candidate Kanwar Singh Tanwar, there was fake voting in a constituency. He has alleged that some men wearing burqa cast their votes. He also added that some burqa-clad women got clearance without being asked for their identity. This happens to be Tanwar’s own constituency.

Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, Karnataka BJP Vice President, has cast her vote in a Sri Vasavi Vidya Niketan’s polling station. She has recently been posted as the vice president of the party. She is also the wife of late parliamentarian Ananth Kumar. However, she was denied the ticket from Bengaluru South constituency, which used to her husband’s constituency.

Omar and Farooq Abdullah Cast Vote

Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah have cast their vote in Munshi Bagh Area’s polling station. Omar Abdullah stated that “Now that LS polls are due to conclude, we can only hope that Centre together with EC gives people of J&K an elected govt which is their right.” Meanwhile, Poonam Sinha, Shatrughan Sinha’s wife, has filed her nomination.

A man has died in Odisha waiting in the line to cast his vote. The incident took place at the Aska Lok Sabha seat’s Kansamari booth. Officials reported that the 95-year-old collapsed before breathing his last.

Kumaraswamy Confident of Winning by Huge margins in Karnataka

HD Kumaraswamy, the Karnataka Chief Minister, has expressed confidence that the Congress-JD(S) alliance would win big time in the state of Karnataka. He implied that it’s likely for the coalition to win 10-12 seats of the total 14 seats in the state. He also urged voters to cast their votes and not miss the opportunity at all.

The voter turnout till 9 AM has been revealed for the state of Manipur. It is reported to be around 15%. The state had an impressively good overall turnout for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls – 75%. In this phase, Manipur has just one seat that is going to polls.

Voting has been stopped in the light of technical problems in EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines). Polling is suspended in Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Assam. A polling agent has also died of a heart attack during his duty in Chhattisgarh.

Darjeeling is witnessing a minor lapse in the voting procedure. The police have carried out lathi charge. The voting has been discontinued as voters are no longer allowed to vote. The highways are jammed by people. Police have also fired shots in the air.

Jammu Kashmir, Udhampur Has Multiple Parties Pitted against Each Other

Total 2 seats are going to poll out of 6 in J&K. There is a BJP stronghold in Udhampur. Jitendra Singh (a union minister) is contesting elections from BJP here against Vikramaditya Singh from Congress, Tilak Raj Bhagat from BSP, and Meenakshi from Shivsena. Here the voter turnout is better as compared to the Srinagar constituency.

ECI Suspends Poll Official for Dereliction of Duty

A Karnataka cadre IAS official, Mohammed Mohsin, deputed as an observer in Odisha by the Election Commission of India (ECI) was suspended by the ECI on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 after receiving a complaint. The official had ordered a search of the chopper in which the Prime Minister had arrived at Sambalpur to address a meeting. During the current polls, the ECI has given advance instructions exempting SPG-protected individuals from checking by the poll officials, and found the suspended officer’s conduct as “dereliction of duty”.

Key political leaders have cast their vote. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has cast her vote at a South’s Jayanagar’s polling booth. Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, too, has voted at a polling station. Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palanisamy also has cast his vote in a Selam’s polling station. All 39 seats in Tamil Nadu are going to poll in this phase.

There has been a minor glitch in the VVPAT at an Assam’s polling booth. The Silchar’s polling booth no. 200 had some problems earlier. However, the problem has been solved now, as per the  Sector Officer Sahadat Ali. Technical problems are also encountered in Agra and Chennai.

The voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections has begun across 95 constituencies in 11 states. Tamil star Rajinikanth, former union minister Sushil Kumar Shinde have already cast his vote. As per the estimates, about 15.8 crore voters are going to exercise their voting right today.

11 States, 95 Constituencies and 15 crore (150 Million) voters are all set to vote for their new representatives today. Hema Malini, Raj Babbar, Kanimozhi, Karti Chidambram, Tejaswi Surya and Deepa Dasmusi are among those in the fray from their respective constituencies.

The PM yesterday appealed to youngsters to step out and vote in large numbers.

After the completion of the first phase, the battle horn has again been sounded for the second phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The competition is likely to be as fierce as it was in the first phase. This phase will witness 95 constituencies going for polling across 11 states and 1 union territory on 18th April, 2019. Election scheduled for Phase 2 was cancelled in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore constituency after a huge cash seizure and postponed in Tripura (East) over the law and order situation.

The prominent constituencies of this phase include Amravati, Bulandshahr, Agra, Hathras, Mathura, Aligarh, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Tripura East, Chennai North, Puducherry, Coimbatore, Solapur, Latur, Bangalore, Mysore, and Mandya.

State wise, in Tamil Nadu, all 39 constituencies will go to the polls in this phase. The union territory of Puducherry is also up for electoral contest this time. Karnataka has 14 constituencies, Maharashtra has 10, while UP has 8 that would go to the polls in the second phase. Additionally, 5 constituencies each in Odisha, Bihar, and Assam, 3 each in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, 1 each in Tripura and Manipur, and finally 2 in Jammu & Kashmir will be heading to the polls on 18th April, 2019.
