Candy Cane Cookies

We always used to decorate a Christmas tree in our home since our childhood, through watching movies around the topic, we always used to get ideas and dream about how and what to decorate on these trees. The Christmas balls, bells and candy canes were the most attractive ones, and as someone has said, there is always a kid inside you, I decided to this time also make some Candy Cane Cookies in preparation for my Christmas party. I’m fairly sure these cookies will be a hit with adults and kids alike so I’m making a good number of these! You too can start to prepare for your party and use this Candy Cane Cookies Recipe to decorate your snacks table along with the tree.

All you need is (makes 15 to 18 cookies)

For Royal Icing

Sugar – 4 cup (grind it to a powder)

Eggs – 2

Lemon – 1 (squeeze to juice out)

For Cookie

Maida – 2 cup

Unsalted butter – 1/2 cup

Sugar – 1 cup

Baking powder – 1/2 tsp

Salt – 1/2 tsp

Egg – 1

Vanilla essence – 1 tsp

Cling film

Preparation time: 20 min

Cooking time: 1 1/2 hour

Making Royal Icing

Separate the egg white and beat it until creamy.

Add powdered sugar and lemon juice.

Beat another min to form an icing and refrigerate.

Making Cookie

In a bowl take sugar and unsalted butter and whisk vigourously for about 5 min.

Add eggs and mix well.

Add vanilla essence and mix well.

In a separate bowl mix maida, salt, baking powder.

Add this mixture in to the sugar and butter mixture to make a dough.

Roll the dough into separate discs about 1/4 inch thick, cover with a cling film and refrigerate for a couple of hours.

Pre heat the oven to 160 C.

Take the dough out of refrigerator and after about 10 min, cut it using candy cane shaped cookie cutter.

Use the waste dough to roll again and cut.

Bake the cookies for about 18 min.

Decorate with Royal Icing as you like, using food color as needed.

Serve or store in air tight container.
