How to make Telangana’s special Sarva Pindi?

India truly holds diversity as its distinct feature. States and Union territories have got their own stories to say to the world, such as their style of food, clothing, and lifestyle. Each element throws light on the state’s rich heritage and history. Food is undoubtedly one such element.

Sarva Pindi, also known as crisp rice roti in English, is a popular snack from Telangana. People belonging to all walks of life enjoy the crispiness of its taste. As it’s often made out of Rice flour (that is commonly available), it is affordable. What makes Telangana’s Rice flour roti unique is the ingredients that go into the making, which ultimately is the reason behind the flavours of this amazing dish.

 Here are the ingredients:

  • One Khadai
  • 1 cup of rice flour
  • 1tsp turmeric
  • 2tsp of chana dal
  • 2tsp of peanuts (roasted)
  • Two chopped green chillies
  • ½ cul of chopped coriander
  • ½ cup of chopped curry leaves
  • 1tsp chilli powder
  • Salt as per the requirement
  • Oil as required
  • Water as required

Step 1: Take a bowl and soak the chana dal for at least an hour and later drain the water from the dal.

Step 2:

  • Take the rice flour.
  • Add drained chana dal, sesame seeds, chilli powder, turmeric, salt.
  • Curry leaves.
  • Crush the peanuts before adding them.

Next, add the required water, knead the dough well, and divide the dough into portions.

Step 3: Take the Khadai, add some oil, and spread it evenly.

Next, take the dough and press the dough evenly into the Khadai, make a few holes in the Sarva Pindi, and add some oil.

Step 4: Now, place the Khadai on the stove on medium flame.

Cook the Sarva Pindi on medium heat for 10-15 minutes; it slowly loosens out, and when the texture turns crispy and golden brown. It is the time to take the Sarva Pindi out of the Kadai, and that’s it. It is ready to serve.

Thick curd can be served as a side dish; this will genuinely enrich the experience.
