Plot

Farrey follows the journey of Niyati, an orphan girl played by Alizeh Agnihotri, who resides in a girls’ orphanage. Ronit Roy takes on the role of the orphanage warden, serving as a father figure to the girls. Niyati’s exceptional intelligence shines through when she becomes the nationwide topper in the 10th-grade board exams. The entire orphanage rejoices as Niyati secures the top position and earns a full scholarship to attend Winston International School, one of the country’s premier educational institutions. Niyati’s dream is to enter the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a prestigious engineering institution in India. However, her school principal encouraged her to set her sights even higher and suggested that she consider applying to Oxford University, a world-renowned university in the United Kingdom. With the principal’s support, Niyati dreamed of attending Oxford and receiving a full scholarship.

Niyati quickly befriends Chavi, who Prasanna Bisht plays. Chavi introduces Niyati to her friends, invites her to parties, and showers her with expensive gifts. In return, Chavi expects Niyati to help her cheat in exams. Niyati, initially hesitant, eventually agrees to help Chavi. Niyati’s ability to help students cheat in exams gains her popularity among the rich kids at her school. She develops innovative methods to help them score high marks; in exchange, they donate money to their orphanage. Alongside Niyati, another bright student named Aakash, played by Sahil Mehta, also aspires to attend Oxford University. Aakash informs the principal about Prateek, played by Zeyn Shaw, cheating by copying Niyati’s answers during an exam. This revelation results in Niyati being disqualified from the Oxford Scholarship exam, leaving her with two choices: discontinue helping students cheat or pursue a path that will lead to financial gain. Niyati opts for the latter, embarking on an exciting adventure in Australia.

Performances

The film is filled with talented young actors who deliver impressive performances. Alizeh, the film’s lead, portrays a poor orphanage girl navigating the luxurious world of rich kids. Her performance is captivating and nuanced. Prasanna Bisht delivers a phenomenal performance as Chavi, a manipulative and arrogant rich kid trying to prove her worth. Bisht embodies the character’s complexities with remarkable depth.

Sahil Mehta shines as a poor student determined to rise above his circumstances, and Zeyn Shaw’s convincing American accent enhances his portrayal of a wealthy South Delhi kid. The performances of these four young actors are truly remarkable. Rounit Roy also delivers a commendable performance, evoking emotions that may bring tears to your eyes.

Analysis

Farrey is a well-written high school drama that transforms a straightforward plot like exam cheating into an exhilarating roller coaster ride by the end. The film is emotionally resonant, with the entire portion following Niyati’s Australian adventure keeping you on the edge of your seat. Thanks to its excellent cinematography, the film is emotionally engaging and refreshingly devoid of boredom.

The music in the film is above average. There are various songs, of which only one is likely to leave a lasting impression. This song, aiming to be the next “Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai”, even features Badshah’s vocals. The other songs are enjoyable, but you won’t leave the theater humming any of them.

Verdict

Overall, Farrey is a well-crafted high school drama that delivers an entertaining and emotional experience. The film’s strengths lie in its gripping plot, strong performances from the young cast, and effective cinematography. While the music is decent, it doesn’t quite match the level of the film’s other elements. Farrey is worth checking out if you’re looking for an inspiring and emotionally resonant high school drama.
