Know how visual effects (VFX) play important role in movies

According to an Indian visual effects supervisor (Srinivas Mohan), In movies, visual effects have grown up to 103%, and almost 80% of movies are using the latest VFX technology to gain a maximum audience.

The popular S.Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ movie has brought VFX into the limelight. This time it is discussed more its market-related aspects than the artistic aspect. The recently released film ‘RRR’ is in the news for its visual effects (VFX) more than earning at the box office. More than 2800 big and small VFX shots have been taken in this film. The complicated VFX process can only be gauged because it took more than three years to make ‘RRR’. Earlier, Rajamouli’s film ‘Bahubali’ (both parts) was viral due to VFX. This time VFX has also attracted attention as an industry.

According to an Indian visual effects supervisor (Srinivas Mohan), In movies, visual effects have grown up to 103%, and almost 80% of movies are using the latest VFX technology to gain a maximum audience.

Know how many films use VFX now:

Today every great film whose budget is 50 to 60 crores has VFX as its significant part. What percentage of the budget is spent on VFX may vary for different genres of films, yet around 15 to 20% of the total production cost of big movies is used for VFX.

Small budget films use VFX or approximately 80% of the movie. However, VFX is taken into practice for one or two shots in most short films.

Reasons for growth in the VFX market:

  • Increased innovation in technology

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) report says that many studios involved in visual effects in India have upgraded themselves in technology. Now all the studios are using real-time technology in VFX as well. This has made it easier to adopt this technology and has also brought down its cost.

  •  Quality content grows on the platforms

According to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), There is a steady increase in quality content on Over the top (OTT) in India. Around 2000 hours of original OTT content was produced in 2019. At present, about 2500 hours of content are being created. The use of VFX has also increased due to the demand and expectation of quality in content. Two years ago, 5% of the production budget of a show was spent on VFX, and now it has increased to 20%.

  • Future of VFX in India

Some Hindi films like ‘Krrish’ and ‘Ra. One’ did an excellent VFX job ten years ago. In the south, we had ‘Robot’ and ‘2.0’. At the same time, VFX was used very well in Rajamouli’s films ‘Magadheera’ and ‘Makkhi’. After that ‘Bahubali’ came, ordinary people also started discussing VFX.

If more money is spent on VFX movies, it will have excellent returns. That’s why VFX is now being used in small films too. Many such things can also be shown through this, so it can be difficult and expensive to deliver on a fundamental level. It is expected to reduce the shooting cost in the coming time. Now VFX is being used in other sectors, such as in presentation and gaming. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that there will be a good demand for VFX in the coming times, and hence the future it and the people associated with it will be bright.
