Sanjeev Kumar’s 1978 iconic dramedy by B R Chopra, has been re-adapted by director Mudassar Aziz (who has previously done films like ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’, ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’, ‘Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi’) and turned it into a modern-day interpretation of relationship which is based on a different value system.
Starring Kartik Aryan as ‘Pati’, Bhumi Pednekar as ‘Patni’ and Ananya Pandey as ‘Woh’, the trailer suggest the film is dealing with infidelity, wrapped up in sex-comedy.
The trailer opens with Karthik Aryan’s “men are the victim and women are mean” monologue. Then we are introduced to ‘Patni’ in Salwaar Kameez, uttering the word sex. And finally, the fantasy which is found outside of the marriage ‘Woh’ in all glamourized urban-look. And lastly, a best friend played by Aparshakti Khurrana who got hero’s back which we assume would play a role in hiding the affair.
The very first few glimpses of the film raises a lot of questions of what is sanskaari and what is not. The image of a salwaar kameez implies to be a naïve housewife and short dress to be an exuberant, independent woman.
While we love to guess that there’s more to the trailer which will handle a subject like infidelity with sensitivity, the trailer talk is entirely uneasy.
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film is set to release on December 6, 2019.
