4. Black Friday (2004/07)
Black Friday is the debut film of director producer Anurag Kashyap. This film was the adaptation of the crime novel Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts by S. Hussain Zaidi. The book was based upon the real life incidents of 1993 Bombay blasts. It also successfully portrayed the then underbelly of Mumbai.
The film chronicles the events that led to the serial blasts and the subsequent police investigation. This docudrama was premiered at Locarno International Film Festival of 2004 but was only allowed to be released in 2007 because of a stay issued by the Bombay High Court. Black Friday went on to win Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival (Los Angeles). It was also selected at the Locarno International Film Festival as a nominee for the Golden Leopard award.
