India’s First Water Bodies Census
The Ministry of Jal Shakti conducted the first census of all water bodies. A total of 24,24,540 water bodies have been counted across the nation, with only 97.1% (23,55,055) in rural areas.

In Andhra Pradesh, the total percentage of rural water bodies is 99.7% which is 1,90,263. While in Arunachal Pradesh, 893 water bodies are 89.9%. Assam has 98.6% with 1,70,112 water bodies. Bihar has 95.7% of rural 43,831 bodies. Chhatisgarh has 33,519, which is 98.6%. Goa has 1406 water bodies is 96.1%. Gujarat has 53,156, and it is about 98.3% entirely. Haryana has 14,376, which is 96.5%. Himachal Pradesh has 99.3% is 87,364. Jharkhand has a 98.7% with 1,06,176 water bodies. Karnataka contains 26,205 water bodies, with 97.1%. Kerala has 89.2%, which is 49,725. Madhya Pradesh has 98%, which is a total of 81,012.
