Padmanabhapuram Palace


The Padmanabhapuram Palace is a nice place to go for an excursion from Kovalam. On a visit to this palace one can experience the beauty of the traditional wooden architecture of Kerala. It dates back to the sixteenth century.

This magnificent wooden palace near Tiruvananthapuram was the erstwhile home of the rulers of Travancore. The architectural splendor of this structure attracts many visitors to this place. The interiors of this palace are decorated with splendid rosewood carvings. The royal ambiance created by the grand architecture adds to the delight of an admirer of art and sculptures.

Although the palace is now in the state of Tamil Nadu yet it is preserved and maintained by the government of Kerala. This four hundred year old structure was the traditional home of the royal family of Travancore. It is situated at a distance of about fifty four kilometers away from Trivananthapuram.

There are exquisite wall paintings in the interiors of the Padmanabhapuram Palace of Kerala. The major attractions of the palace are the black granite floors and the floral carvings on the walls. There are also some wonderful eighteenth century frescoes that can be seen in the puja rooms located at the upper floors of the wooden palace.
