Bokaro District, an amalgam of portions of Dhanbad and Giridih was created in the year 1991. Located in the sprawling and luxuriant Chotanagpur Plateau, Bokaro spans from 23°29' latitude and 86° 09' longitudes and occupies and area of 2861 sq. km.

With a population of over 8 lakhs, Bokaro is a multi-dimensional industrial base of India. The district is renown for the Bokaro Steel Plant.

Bokaro District, on the banks of the Damodar is an urban zone abounding in natural splendor. Recognized worldwide for its Bokaro Steel City, magnificent Garga Dam and Parasnath Hills, Bokaro Ispat Pustakalaya, City Park,Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park, Chandrapura and TenuGhat, it attracts multitude of tourists throughout the year.
