Growing up, Disney movies have been a part of our childhood. We all have given our love and joy to characters like Cinderella and Rapunzel. However, as adults, our glares have changed, and we often find the same characters now childish and say so to our kids. But what we do not know is that these characters have much more to offer to us than being pretty and cute. They can grow a sense of maturity in us.

After feasting our eyes on Cinderella’s shining glass shoes and Rapunzel’s shining long hair, now we know that women do not need a knight in shining armour to have a life outside their castles. Or Lion King is not just mere innocence, and it is a fight of power, dynasty and hierarchy. Disney movies like Frozen are a treat to watch with family so younger kids and adults alike can start accepting their true selves.

Despite the paradoxical complexities in such movies, we have managed to compile a list of FIVE Disney movies which are above man-women-power politics. These films can be watched not just by children but people of all ages and to take some profound lessons of life.

Most watched Movies of Disney:

Inside Out (2015)

This movie is set in the mind of an 11-year-old Rylie whose dominant emotion is happiness but is now depressed about her parent’s decision to move them from Minnesota to San Francisco. Riley’s emotions are determined by five characters (her emotions) who lives in her head (obviously); joy, sadness, disgust, fear and anger. And these five emotions jostle against each other on her mind to take control.

Apart from its soothing quality, the film has one important lesson to teach, and it is the significance of sadness in our lives to be able to enjoy life to the fullest.

Coco (2017)

This is a story about an 8-year-old boy, Miguel who aspires to be a musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz despite his family’s age-old ban on music. In desperation to follow his dream, Miguel lands in the stunning land of the Dead where he would meet a trickster named Hector and the two would embark on a journey to dig the history of Miguel’s family history.

The film is a treat to watch for its beautiful animation and rich Mexican culture. But most importantly, the film teaches us that death is inevitable and those who love us never really leave us, simplifying the notion of death. They are alive in our memories.

Moana (2016)

Moana is the story of an exotic Disney princess, daughter of the chief who sails out to save the Polynesian island of Motunui. On her journey, she meets the demi-God Maui who would guide her in her quest to become a way-finder and to restore the heart of Tafiti.

The film teaches us to face our fears and accept our mistakes when we identify; they’re our own.

Finding Nemo (2003)

Marlin, a clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier reef and is overly cautious of his son Nemo who has a foreshortened fin. Nemo tries to overcome the barrier because of the fin and swims too close to the surface to prove himself and is caught by a diver. The story surrounds the rescue mission of Nemo.

The story teaches us how over-possessiveness in relationships and irrational fears can suffocate the other person and how eventually such fears push them away. And the lesson is not limited to just father and son.

Frozen (2019)

This is the story of two Princesses, Elsa and Anna of Arendelle whose kingdom is trapped in perpetual winter. The fearless sisters join mountaineer Kristoff to break the icy spell and find the truth behind their parents’ death.

The film beautifully portrays the importance of family and togetherness and the magic of sharing emotions and voicing your opinion. It also teaches to be unapologetically you.

All the movies mentioned above are available on Disney+Hotstar for a watch.
