Indian Premier League (IPL) is the homegrown domestic Twenty20 league, which started in the year 2008. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) controlled IPL Governing Council organizes this annual T20 cricket tournament. IPL is one of the most-watched and also the most cash-rich tournament in the world. According to Forbes, IPL is the fastest growing sports league when it comes to valuations with a growth rate of 24% leaving behind the NBA and NFL. Until now, fifteen seasons of IPL tournaments have been conducted. IPL made its debut on April 18, 2008, the latest season is held between April-May 2022. The fifteenth season of the Indian Premier League commenced on March 26, 2022.

IPL T20 Tournament: 15th Season

During the 15th season of the Indian Premier League, 10 teams are playing the tournament. During the 2022 IPL Players’ Auction, Rs 551.70 crore was spent by these teams on 204 players. The costliest buys were youngster Ishan Kishan bought for 15.25 by Mumbai Indians and Deepak Chahar, bought at Rs. 14 crore by Chennai Super Kings.

10 teams who fought it out this season – Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants.

2022 Indian Premier League were played in 4 venues:

  • Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai, Maharashtra) – 33,000 Capacity
  • Brabourne Stadium (Mumbai, Maharashtra)- 20,000 Capacity
  • DY Patil Stadium (Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra)- 55,000 Capacity
  • MCA International Stadium (Pune, Maharashtra)- 45,000 Capacity

Here are the details:

  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has announced that tickets for their matches will be available online on BookMyShow from March 16. CSK starts off the tournament by playing the opener on March 26 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
  • Mumbai Indians start their campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 27 at Wankhede Stadium. The tickets are already out and the fans can book their tickets at BookMyShow.
  • You can visit Bookmyshow to buy tickets for their opening for Royal Challengers Bangalore. While their first game is against Punjab Kings on March 27, the next one is against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 30. Both the games will be played at DY Patil Stadium.
  • Delhi Capitals will play their first 5 games against Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants(LSG), Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challenger Bangalore, and Punjab Kings Xi on March 27, April 2, April 7, April 16, and April 20 respectively.

  • Tickets for Punjab Kings XI matches will play their first two games against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 27 and on April 1 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2018 finalist, start their campaign on March 29 against Rajasthan Royals at Maharashtra Cricket Association, Pune. They will play their next game against Lucknow Super Giants on April 4.
