Ganesh Chathurthi is here and Mumbai is just the place to be. The spectacular celebrations in Mumbai last 4 to 5 days. While the festival is celebrated all over the country, Tinsel Town is known for the extra sparkle, the king size celebrations. And why not? Ganapathi Bappa is indeed the favourite of our film city and its celebrities. It comes as no surprise then that some of the best Ganesha aartis and songs come from Bollywood films.
Here’s a pick of our favourite Ganesh Chaturthi special songs from Hindi films:
Deva Ho Deva (Hum Se Badkar Kaun – 1981)
The best-loved Ganesha song of Bollywood, Deva ho Deva was sung by some of the best playback singers in the industry – Mohammed Rafi, Bhupinder Singh, Shailender Singh, Sapan Chakraborty, and  Asha Bhosle – and composed by Ram Laxman.
Sadda Dil Vi Tu Ga Ga Ga Ganapati (ABCD – 2013)
Composers Sachin and Jigar crafted this pulsating number to reach the hearts of the younger lot. Sung by Hard Kaur and choreographed by Remo this is an invigorating Ganesha song. Watch out for the 3D dance.
Shree Ganeshay Dheemahi (Viruddh… Family Comes First – 2005)
Featuring Amitabh Bhachchan and Sharmila Tagore, this song was sung by Shankar Mahadevan and composed by Ajay Atul. Â It is one of the most soothing Ganesha aartis you’re likely to find in a Bollywood film.
Deva Shree Ganesha (Agneepath – 2011)
The 2011 remake of Agneepath wasn’t a box office hit but this fiery song composed by Ajay Atul and sung by Ajay Gogavale is still popular.
Sidoor Lal Chadhayo (Vaastav – 1999)
This traditional Ganesh aarti received a makeover by Jatin and Lalit and was sung by Ravindra Sathe. The song starts out as a mellow aarti but covers a lot of action involving Sanjay Dutt.
Mourya Re (Don – 2006)
Farhan Akhtar’s 2011 remake of Don had all the elements of a winner but this Shankar Mahadevan number composed by the trio Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy featuring Shah Rukh Khan topped them all.
 Ganpati Apne Gaon Chale (Agneepath – 1990)
Next is the original Agneepath starring Amitabh Bhachchan and Mithun Mithun Chakraborty and its epic Ganapati visarjan song. This song was composed by Laxmikant and Pyarelal and sung by Sudesh Bhosle, Kavita Krishnamurthy, and Anupama Deshpande.
Tera Hi Jalwa (Wanted – 2009)
Salman Khan starrer Wanted featured this feisty song sung by Wajid Ali and Earl D’Souza. Waajid and Sajid composed tis number and Prabhu Deva both directed the film and composed the song.
Ganapati Bappa Morya (Dard Ka Rishta – 1982)
Sunil Dutt, Reena Roy, and Smita Patil starrer Dard ka Rishta was released in 1982. The song Ganapati Bappa Moraya sung by Hariharan and composed by RD Burman is an soulful number.
Murti Ganesh Ki (Takkar – 1980)
One of the earliest films to showcase the Ganapati Puja in Mumbai is the 1980 film Takkar. This number featuring Sanjeev Kumar and Jitendra was composed by RD Burman and sung by Kishore Kumar and Mahendra Kapoor.
Ganapati Aarti (Sarkar 3 – 2017)
There must be something about Amitabh Bhachchan; a number of Bollywood Ganapati songs either feature him or were sung by him. Here’s another by Rohan Vinayak which AB himself sung.
Thank God Bappa (Banjo – 2016)
Riteish Deshmukh and his ultra-modern Thank God Bappa is a fun number. This song from the 2016 film Banjo with its Marathi lyrics was sung by Vishal Dadlani and composed by Vishal and Shekhar.
Gajanana (Bajirao Mastani – 2015)
Despite being featured in a film that became very popular due to its music , this song did not become popular due to the action that dominated the screen. It is nevertheless a beautiful song. This is the only song in the film to be composed by Shreyas Puranik and sung by Sukhwinder Singh. It makes for a wonderful Ganesh aarti.
Ganpati Bappa Agle Baras Tu (Aasoo Bane Angaarey -1993)
This 1993 political drama, Aasoo Bane Angaarey featured this visarjan song composed by Rajesh Roshan sung by one of the most popular playback singers, Lata Mangeshkar. What added to the charm of the song is the wonderful dance by Madhuri Dixit.
O My Friend Ganesha (My Friend Ganesha – 2008)
Here’s something for the kids. This popular children’s film song features a cute rap as well – something that is unusual in a song dedicated to Ganesha.
Sukh Karta Dukh Harta Ganpati Aarti (Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge – 2010)
This year if you are bringing Ganesha’s idol at your home, then you must welcome Shri Ganesh by singing this melodious aarti. As this prayer consists of some beautiful lines which are absolutely heart touching and they will directly connect you with the vighnaharta.
