What is Migraine and its symptoms?

Migraines can be defined as a painfully unbearable headaches. Only those who struggle with this problem can understand this pain.

Its attack lasts from several hours to a few days. Many people have different problems during pain. Usually, it can also happen due to deterioration of eating routine, change in environment, increase in stress or sleeping more. 

Migraine is characterized by severe headache and nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light. It varies from person to person. Many people can have migraines in several stages. 

The following symptoms may appear in these stages:

  • Initial symptoms

A few hours or a few days before the headache, About 60% of people with diabetes have these symptoms – sensitivity to light, sound or smell, tiredness, mood swings, excessive thirst, constipation or diarrhoea. 

  • Migraine symptoms stem from your nervous system. This type of headache usually starts slowly over 5 to 20 minutes and lasts for less than an hour. During this time, you may see the following symptoms. 
  • There may be black dots, wavy lines, flashes of light, or things not present. Tunnel vision (difficulty seeing) may occur or doesn’t show up. 
  • Tingling-numbness on one side of the body. 
  • There may be a problem with speaking clearly. 
  • There may be a feeling of heaviness in the arms and legs. 
  • There may be some ringing in the ears. Changes in smell, taste or touch may be seen. 
  • Postdrome

This state can last up to a day after the headache. The following symptoms may appear: Lethargic, irritable and unusually fresh. Muscle pain or weakness may also be felt. 

Causes of migraine 

The exact cause of migraine headaches is unknown, although this type of headache may be related to lifestyle changes. It can also be genetic. Women get migraines three times more often than men. 

Most people start having migraine headaches between the ages of 10 and 40. But it has been seen that in some people, migraine subsides after the age of 50. 

In a family of four out of five people suffering from migraine, it may happen that this headache also occurs in some other family member. If one parent has had this type of headache, their child has a chance of getting it. If both parents suffer from migraine, then the risk of developing them in children increases to 75%. 

Depression, anxiety, and sleep problems can increase the difficulties. Many women have headaches during their periods or when they are pregnant. These symptoms may also be related to menopause, birth control, or hormone replacement therapy. 

Some defences that will relieve migraine:

When you are under stress, your brain secretes chemicals that can cause changes in blood vessels, leading to migraine. So don’t get stressed about small things. 

  • Foods

Certain foods and beverages, such as old cheese and alcohol, can be responsible for migraines in some people. So eat fresh, nutritious and balanced nutrition. 

  • Negligence in food

Even if you do not eat food on time, the problem of migraine can be severe. So don’t stay empty stomach and Have food on time.

  • Caffeine

Consumption of too much caffeine or sometimes more than daily could affect it. Even reducing it to that amount can cause headaches if you take it.

  • Changes in weather 

Migraine can be aggravated by storms, strong winds or changes in altitude. So try to be a little careful at this time. 

  • Sense

This problem can also be caused by a loud sounds, light and smells. 

  • Changes in sleep

Getting too much sleep or not getting enough sleep can also cause headaches. Don’t be careless about rest.
