On June 22, 2017, 18-year-old Rifath Sharook, hailing from Tamil Nadu, with the help of NASA launched the world’s lightest and smallest satellite. Rifath and his team designed the satellite which weighed merely 64 grams. Named after the former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, KalamSat is completely designed from scratch. Sharook’s satellite got selected by NASA after beating more than 80,000 contestants. It was the first time that an Indian student’s experiment was operated by NASA.
