1. Bauxite

Bauxite is an essential mineral which is required to produce aluminium. This metal is in high demand in the aeronautical industry, oil refineries and construction buildings. At present, the total reserves of bauxite for all grades are estimated to be 303.7 crore tonnes. The total resources of Bauxite as per the United Nations Framework Classification (UNFC) in India are about 3,290 million tonnes. Odisha is the largest producer of Bauxite in India. Other than Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Maharashtra are the principal producers of Bauxite in India.

2. Chromite

Chromite

Chromite is a ferro-alloy metal. The ore of chromium is essential for manufacturing ferrochrome which is required for special steel chemicals and defence goods. As per UNFC, the total resources of Chromite in the country are estimated at 213 million tonnes. 95 per cent of chromite resources is in Orissa. It is also available in Maharashtra, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh.
