The Bhatts wanted no comparisons and they have done it! Yes, Aashiqui 2 is neither a sequel nor a remake of the older version of the 90s. What has been presented is a completely distinctive storyline based on cliches of romance. A T-series and Bhatt camp production, Aashiqui 2 is a musical romantic creation brimming with emotions and love. It is an amalgamation of love stories of some of the most successful movies of the Indian cinema. If you have been waiting for a love story that could make your heart cry, you have found the right thing!
Moving away from the original track, the story introduces us to Rahul Jaykar, a singing sensation who is falling apart because of his habit of alcoholism. His life changes when he meets his lady-love, Arohi who hopes to be a singing star someday. What moves ahead is familiar emotional apologue when Rahul goes out of his way to realize her dreams, staking his own career for an unbound love. The story takes a bow when Arohi’s success reaches sky-high while the actual superstar, RJ fades away. Tormented by the heart shattering comments by the people, he loses his way. With a constant battle between intense love and the failures of the career, the climax brings out what overpowers his mind.
To juxtapose the novelty of the storyline, fresh faces had been signed in by the Bhatt’s. Aditya Roy Kapoor, a popular face in bollywood, looks amazingly adorable. He has managed to do his job well in terms of portraying intense love. With his rugged and passionate looks, he is convincing as a rockstar and an intense lover. Shraddha Kapoor, fails to hide her lack of experience in acting. She does nothing exceptional than look pretty and fragile. She is slow and child-like. But as a couple, both of them seem to have a little magic between them. Nonetheless, the two of them have been incapable of hiding the flaws of the movie with their performances.
One thing that the Bhatt camp can never go wrong with is the music. They have been extraordinary with that and have proved it yet again. Being a musical romantic flick, it has a long list of songs to look out for. With 11 tracks in the trail, the music of the movie is the highlight. The list has some of the most romantic numbers that will captivate your heart and will definitely make you fall in love. The melodious music of the film is something that has done something good to the film indeed. Whether the movie has fared well or not, its music is surely hitting the charts well.
The first half of the movie is sweet and brimming with mushy love while the second half is slow, intense and depressing. The sluggish pace of the movie has killed the magic that could have taken place otherwise. The movie has some intense love dialogues between the couple. Aashiqui 2 came out with a lot of expectations of a hit musical as its predecessor which made the lead pair big stars in a day. Unfortunately, Mohit Suri couldn’t bring back the same magic but has managed to maintain the decorum in it. Go for it if you are a fan of Bhatt movies or mushy love stories!
Verdict: Watch it with your beloved! You might just fall in love again. 😛
Rating: ** and ½ for the story and an extra ½ for the music
