Kajol Devgn: Early Life, Career And Awards

A phenomenal actress and one of the most successful names in Hindi cinema, Kajol Devgn is the daughter of Shomu Mukherjee and Tanuja. Kajol was in school when she made her first film debut in ‘Bekhudi’. Along with being an enormous actress, she is a social activist and works efficiently for the development of children and women.

The early life of Kajol

Kajol was born on August 5, 1974, in Mumbai. Her father is a film director and producer, while her mother is an actress. Kajol was born and raised in a family connected solely to the film industry. Her younger sister (Tanishaa) is an actress; her aunt (Nutan), grandmother and great-grandmother all were involved in cinema. Her uncles and grandfathers were film producers and filmmakers. Her cousins are also actors and directors. So, her involvement in cinema is quite significant.

Kajol belonged to a family where her mother and father got divorced when she was young, and she was grown up by her maternal grandmother, who never let her feel that her mother was away from her. From an early age, she was interested in dancing and acting. After making her first debut, she even dropped out of school to work as a full-time actress. Kajol married Ajay Devgn on February 24, 1999, with whom she has two kids.

The career of Kajol

Kajol initiated her career as an actress in ‘Bekhudi’ with her co-star Kamal Sadanah and her mother, Tanuja. This film turned out to be a box office flop, but her performance got praise and gained positive notice.

She worked in several movies after that. She has worked with Shah Rukh Khan as co-start in movies named Baazigar, Kuch Kuch Hota hai, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum, My Name is Khan, Dilwale, etc. they were even called best on-screen couple by the viewers. Some movies starring Ajay Devgan are Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha, Ishq, Karan Arjun, Tanhaji, U Me Aur Hum, etc. She star-casted in Fanaa with Amir Khan, Hum Aapke Dil Main Rehte Hain with Anil Kapoor, Dushman with Sanjay Dutt, and several other hit movies.

Awards won by Kajol

• Kajol won her first Filmfare award for Best Actress in 1996 for her performance in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

• In 1998, she won two awards for the movie Gupt: The Hidden Truth. The first was Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role, and the second was Zee Cine Award for Best Award in a Negative Role.

• For her performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, she got her third Filmfare Award for Best actress. She even received the Zee Cine Award and Bollywood Movie Award.

• Her movie- Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum, a family drama, was a hit movie, and for her fabulous acting in it, she got three awards. Filmfare Award, Zee Cine Awards for Outstanding Actress and Bollywood Movie Award in 2002.

• In 2007, for her movie Fanaa, she received the Zee Cine and Filmfare awards again.

• In 2011, Kajol received the Stardust Award for Star of the Year- Female and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her movie with Shah Rukh Khan- My Name is Khan.

• Kajol is honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India, which is the fourth highest civilian award in the country.
