Controversy and Protest

Yash Raj Films, on December 12, unveiled the very first song from the highly awaited Pathaan film, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, and it has grabbed the internet by storm, but not always for the best of reasons. Deepika Padukone is at the centre of a significant debate over her role in ‘Besharam Rang.’

While the song has a captivating rhythm, with Shilpa Rao’s lovely voice wonderfully matching Vishal and Shekhar’s soundtrack, and Shah Rukh and Deepika look stunning, the song is being criticised for its dancing and Deepika’s outfit, notably a saffron-coloured beach costume. The song’s title, “Besharam Rang”, has also been a source of contention for some who associate it with the saffron colour that Padukone dresses in the clip. There have been petitions to have the song deleted from the movie Pathaan due to the controversy.

Censor Board and Cuts

The Censor Board has recommended up to 13 changes to Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film Pathan, which received a UA certificate. Deepika Padukone’s close-up images of ‘buttocks, side-pose, and seductive dancing motions during the words Bahut Tang Kiya’ from the controversial song Besharam Rang were removed.
