5. Guru (2007)
Guru film was loosely based on the life of Indian business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani. He was the force behind the Reliance conglomerate. This film was directed as well as co-written by Mani Ratnam. The film portrays the life of a villager named Gurukant Desai who arrives in Bombay back in 1958. His meteoric rise from the streets of Mumbai to one of the biggest business tycoons of all time forms the plot of the story. The role of the protagonist was played by Abhishek Bachchan. The other stars in the film were Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, and others. Guru was the first mainstream Indian film that premiered in Canada. It went on to be screened in the 2007 Cannes Film Festival’s prestigious Tous Les Cinemas du Monde (World Cinema) section.
