Yogi Adityanath
Be it for the right reasons or wrong, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has been in the spotlight throughout this year. From cow vigilantism to mob lynchings, and especially the name-changing practice, the state of Uttar Pradesh was in and out of media’s attention. Recently, when the BJP’s Statue of Unity was already receiving a mixed response, Yogi Adityanath declared that his government will be installing a grand statue of Lord Ram in the state.
Earlier this year, the Chief Minister changed the name of the city of Allahabad to Prayagraj, of Mughalsarai to Deen Dayal Upadhyay junction- a move that continues to receive both serious criticism and ridicule. He was Bharatiya Janata Party’s key campaign leaders for the 2018 assembly elections, along with leaders like the party president Amit Shah, and Prime Minister Modi himself.
