The Congress leader practically stole the limelight for controversies this year. While his presence at the oath-taking ceremony of Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan, had already raised enough eyebrows, Sidhu hugging the Pak army-chief Bajwa unleashed criticism from all sides. Responding to the opponents, Sidhu merely said that he is “human, not a robot”.
Later in the year, when talks of Kartarpur border came in highlights, Sidhu once again came in the heat for personally attending the inauguration in Pakistan, despite being advised not to. Sushma Swaraj, the Foreign Minister had been invited for the ceremony but declined it. Even fellow party members like CM Amarinder Singh of Punjab criticised Navjot Singh Sidhu for the close ties with the Pak Prime Minister, coming at a time when the two nations share tattered relations.
