Apple Opens Its First Retail Store In India In Mumbai

Tim Cook recently announced that the company is stepping up production and sales of its flagship iPhone nationwide.

After the successful opening in Mumbai, an additional Apple retail location will open in New Delhi. Since 2018, when it opened a location in Bangkok, the business has not expanded to a new nation.

The First Retail Store

As evidence of the market’s significance for the future of the iPhone manufacturer, Apple CEO Tim Cook opened its first store in India. Mumbai, a populous city, is home to the first store, known as Apple BKC. On Thursday, Apple will inaugurate a new store in Delhi. Tim Cook recently announced that the company is stepping up production and sales of its flagship iPhone nationwide.

Apple has been active in India for more than 25 years. According to analysts, Apple’s strategy for entering China, one of the company’s biggest markets, and expanding sales and production of iPhones there are similar.

Apple’s Future

By serving as a one-stop shop for purchasing products, getting services, and getting accessories, an Apple store aims to give customers a top-notch experience. Adding to the unparalleled shopping experience are the architectural wonders of these stores.

Especially among customers of the tech giant’s products, the opening of Apple’s two retail locations in India has sparked much public interest. Attendees of the store’s grand opening have come from Gujarat and Rajasthan. In the last two years, the company has increased the production of its iPhones in India by 7%. Apple has thus produced over 1 lakh jobs in India.

Participants in the opening event, including regional music and folk dance performances, travelled to Mumbai from all over India. The black-and-yellow taxis that are commonplace in the city served as inspiration for the design of the Mumbai store, which is situated in an upscale neighbourhood.

As Apple diversifies its supply chains and moves away from relying solely on China, India is also becoming a central iPhone manufacturing hub. 5% of all iPhones are now produced in India.  Regulations requiring foreign retailers to source 30% of their goods locally for at least three years prevented the company from opening a store in India. Cook personally urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reinstate the restrictions after they were lifted in 2019.

About the Store

Apple touts its Mumbai location as “one of the most energy-efficient” worldwide, with a dedicated solar energy system and zero reliance on fossil fuels for store operations. 100% renewable energy is used to power Apple BKC, according to Apple. In February, Cook said that he was “bullish” on the world’s fifth-largest economy and that the company is investing a “considerable amount of energy” in the market. Cook has long viewed India as a crucial market for Apple’s future.

Nearly seven years after his first visit as Apple CEO, Cook travelled to India for the store’s opening. The first Apple retail store in India opened in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex to long lines of adoring fans, boisterous applause, and countless selfies. Most people in line said they had been there since last night. Their Apple gear was seen being flashed. The energy in Mumbai is “incredible,” Cook tweeted shortly after the event’s opening.
